Research foundations include guidance and research from the Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), social and emotional learning (SEL) research, and related educational research.
What makes The Best Me Bellringers™ different is that it combines social-emotional learning, academic readiness, standards-based instruction, evidence-based practices, multimodal learning, real-world application, and cross-curricular activities within one consistent daily classroom system.
Flexible by Design: While the lessons within each module are intended to be taught in numerical order (1–5), the modules themselves may be taught in any order. Teachers are encouraged to select the module that best addresses the current needs of their students and classroom culture.
Rather than treating social-emotional learning as a separate program that requires teachers to find additional instructional time, The Best Me Bellringers™ integrates skill development into the first 5–15 minutes of class—the time teachers already use for bellringers, warm-ups, attendance, and classroom transitions.
More Than Social-Emotional Learning
The Best Me Bellringers™ is intentionally designed to support the development of the whole student. In addition to strengthening character, communication, and critical thinking, the program provides regular opportunities for students to practice essential academic and developmental skills.
Support for Individual Student Needs
The Best Me Bellringers™ incorporates practices that can support a wide range of learners, including strategies that may complement supports identified in some students’ Section 504 Plans.
Students are provided regular opportunities to practice:
-
Meditation, mindfulness, and stress-reduction techniques
-
Self-regulation and emotional awareness
-
Communication and self-advocacy
-
Conflict resolution and positive peer interaction
-
Reading comprehension strategies
-
Written expression and reflection
-
Critical and analytical thinking
-
Following routines, directions, and structured expectations
These strategies are embedded naturally within classroom activities and can benefit all students while complementing individualized supports already established by schools.
The Best Me Bellringers™ is designed to complement—not replace—individual accommodations, interventions, or services required by a student's Section 504 Plan or IEP.
Handwriting & Fine Motor Development. While completing daily written reflections, vocabulary activities, and action steps, students regularly practice handwriting.
These consistent writing experiences help reinforce:
-
Fine motor control and hand coordination
-
Pencil control and handwriting fluency
-
Written expression
-
Focus and attention to detail
-
Organization of thoughts through writing
Although The Best Me Bellringers™ is not a handwriting curriculum, its daily written activities provide meaningful opportunities for students to strengthen these foundational skills while engaging in purposeful reflection and learning.
The program uses a multimodal learning approach, engaging students through multiple ways of learning rather than relying on a single instructional method. Rather than experiencing instruction through a single activity, students participate in a variety of learning experiences that strengthen academic understanding while developing the social-emotional and life-readiness skills needed for success in school and beyond.
Multimodal Learning in Action
Students engage through multiple learning modalities, including:
-
Reading and writing to strengthen literacy, comprehension, and written communication.
-
Speaking and active listening to develop communication skills and respectful dialogue.
-
Collaboration and discussion to promote teamwork, perspective-taking, and shared learning.
-
Reflection and self-assessment to encourage self-awareness, accountability, and personal growth.
-
Critical thinking and problem-solving to analyze situations and make thoughtful decisions.
-
Real-world application to connect classroom learning to authentic life experiences.
-
Role-play and communication practice to build confidence, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
-
Movement through learning stations to increase engagement, reinforce learning, and provide opportunities for active participation.
